Expanded Learning Programs (formerly After School Programs)

Riverside Unified School District currently has 26 after-school programs operating at 20 elementary schools and 6 middle schools. These programs are funded by a combination of California Department of Education After-School Education and Safety Program (ASES) and federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) grants. The programs run from the close of school each day until 6:00 p.m. and are required to provide an academic hour, a nutritious snack, and enrichment activities. The programs are free and enrollment is voluntary. The number of students who might be accepted into the after-school program at each site is limited and varies according to the amount of funding the school receives. Schools may choose to prioritize enrollment of students into the program based on academic need.

The elementary after-school programs are HEARTS. Per the funding guidelines, students enrolled in the elementary programs are expected to attend the full program daily. Students exiting the program prior to 6:00 p.m. must adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Early Release Policy.
